Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipstick in 04 Peach Club

Ever since the Hourglass Opaque Rouge liquid lipstick stormed my lippie-castle I knew that we were onto a winner. As much as I love the Opaque Rouge’s, I do, I do!, unless my lips are in tip-top ‘angel bottom smooth’ condition they do wreck some (admittedly glamorous) havoc- I adore the formulation as an idea– going on smooth like butter but what makes them so long-lasting is the fact that they dry to a matte finish. In theory it’s all really quite brilliant but here’s where they fall short; When they go from liquid to matte they dry your lips out in the process- fact. They settle in every crease, revealing any flaw and stain your lips like crazy. Oddly enough this isn’t the case for one of my three colours (check back for this upcoming post). Another plus though is that the Opaque Rouge range contain a whopping nine shades- It may have more hits in there somewhere.

So the hunt continues and here’s the criteria: A thick, opaque formula that is liquid but also creamy enough to glide smoothly over any less-than-perfect lip texture. It also need to dry post-application and not just leave a gloopy mess. I didn’t want to compromise. Especially at the steep £23 of an Opaque Rouge. I prayed and the makeup gods answered- oh, how they answered…

The brilliant peeps at Bourjois brought out the slickest looking, totally divine tube of their ‘Rouge Edition Velvet’s (£8.99). It has all the qualities; it glides on smoothly in a light and opaque layer and has barely no down-time in waiting for it to dry. Once dry, it stayed put through my morning coffee and croissant and hours later my lips had an even peach-pink stain- not a blotch or a dry flake to be spotted. I have been wearing this almost every day this week and the colour in 04 Peach Club is just so plushy and magnifique. Perfect for daytime and a ‘pulled together’ evening look. It looks great paired with a bronze eye and the beautiful packaging makes it a treat to pull out for touch-ups- although I seriously doubt one would be required. It has more than double the performance score of the Hourglass Opaque Rouge and for less than half the buck- what else could you want? Well there’s just the one thing; if it only came in more than six shades…
